Linda and I, "Tall and Small," had a great trip to the Pacific Northwest with a weekend visit to two of our favorite venues. First on Friday we played a show at Brother Don's Bar & grill in Bremerton Washington. The Ray Ohls Trio has a regular gig there on Friday nights and It was great fun stretching out with them on some old favorites and a few originals by Ray too. We are talking with Ray about doing a CD there of Ray's tunes early next year.
Saturday Night we played at Boxley's in North Bend with the Danny Kolke Trio featuring Greg Williamson on drums and Jon Hamar on bass. What a night! Boxley's was participating in "The Jazz Walk", a yearly event hosted by a number of area Venues, and spearheaded by Danny Kolke. People kept arriving all night - and didn't leave! By the end of the night the our venue was packed with over 300 people. Our sets included some standards but mostly new tunes written by Danny, that we ended up recording live on Sunday night.
Linda had to fly home on Sunday to play on a Family Guy session early Monday morning. When she picked me up on Monday afternoon we drove to Santa Monica to play with Lenny Stack's big band at the Typhoon Bar. Being able to play four or five nights in a row is areal luxury these days so it was a banner weekend.
And of course a special thank you to Ray Ohls & Brother Don!
